Pico was chosen for your pigment concerns as we deem it the best solution for YOUR pigment signature. However if you would like to select your choice of laser based upon your own ‘research’, we can offer the following options from our menu.
QSL Nano, Hollywood Spectra or Curas q switch laser: Slower to work compared to pico, however has less downtime & less discomfort. Typically takes 2-4 times longer to complete the job compared to pico, thus incurring a proportional increase in costs. In most cases, the side effect rate of this laser is higher, as compared to Picosure Pro.
Fraxel, LaseMD Ultra fractional laser resurfacing: are a good option for non-melasma pigmentation in lighter skin types. Downside? More sessions, healing time 4-6 times longer than pico. Upside? Can remodel the deeper layers of skin better than pico, but requires more sessions over 6 -12 months in the context of resistant melasma.
More on Fraxel laser
CO2 lasers or erbium lasers are awesome for selected cases of pigmentation, however these lasers are associated with a recovery rate of 8-16 times that of pico lasers. They require sedation as they are painful. These lasers are not suitable for melasma pigmentation & darker – ethnic skin types.
Chemical peels: are awesome for some cases of pigmentation, including high contrast superficial melasma. Downside of peels? Longer downtime compared to pico laser & in some cases more discomfort (skin inflammation, swelling, skin irritation). Chemical peels are not as good as Picosure Pro for isolated age spots, freckles, deep pigmentation such as Hori’s or sun spots.
Upside? Hurts less than pico laser treatments. This is our preferred chemical peel.
