Melanopro Peel

No. The Melanopro peel system is only for superficial forms of melasma. Deep or dermal melasma responds to lasers (even then, the response rate is low). 

Dermal melasma is treated by our dermatologist.

These pre-service guidelines are important to follow to achieve the best results from the service.This system is not advised with those with highly sensitive skin, or those who have skin conditions such as rosacea, eczema, etc.

• Do not use topical skin care products containing ingredients that may increase skin sensitivity such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, or hydroxy acids one week prior to treatment.
• Avoid waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis on the face five days prior to treatment.
• Avoid unprotected sun exposure or sunburn at least two weeks prior to treatment.

Side effects are mild & uncommon. Expected effects are vastly different compared to side effects. Expected effects: mild itch, tightness, peeling, & redness that settles within 3-4 days of the peel. 

Side effects: prolonged itch, burning, swelling & severe inflammation due to allergy to ingredients in the peel.

Patch testing is optional prior to using the Melanopro Peel System. Patch testing is a way to gauge if a client may be contraindicated to treatment & is recommended if-

• You have known sensitivities to the listed ingredients.
• A history of skin sensitivities such as eczema or dermatitis.
• For rosacea patients, we do not recommend chemical peels, lasers are safer.

Here is how to patch test the product- 

Cleanse a small area behind the ears with a damp esthetic wipe or cotton.

1. Dispense a small amount of Day One Peeling Masque to cotton swab and apply behind the ear.
2. Dispense a small amount of Continuous Resurfacing Cream to cotton swab and apply behind the ear.

During the patch test, the client may experience a tingling sensation and/or warmth—this is normal. Keep the creams on the skin for up to 90 minutes and then remove with water. Monitor the area for 24-48 hours and inform the skin therapist of any skin changes. Watch for signs of extreme redness, rash, swelling or hives. If any of these appear, you may not be suitable for the Melanopro Peeling System.

The Ultracalming mist is included in the system & is designed to reduce redness & skin sensitivity. It should be used several times a day during the 6 weeks of application. 

Key ingredients: Oats & botanical extracts designed to calm the skin & establish barrier function. Aloe vera is also added as this reduces inflammation. 

It’s complex, but this is a simplified explanation- 

Pico lasers are great for no downtime melasma treatments, especially when melasma is accompanied by other forms of pigmentation including age spots, dermal pigment & sun damage pigmentation. Pico lasers provide better skin rejuvenation results (especially if combined with Rejuran). 

Cosmelan peels are great for superficial high contrast melasma. This is one of the fastest methods to treat melasma, albeit a prolonged recovery period of up to 2 weeks. This peel was popular a decade ago, however newer peels have much less skin irritation. 

Vi Precision Plus peels are awesome. Recovery of only 2-3 days, which makes this a favored choice over Cosmelan & Dermamelan peels. 

Melasma skin care involves pigment correctors such as arbutin, hydroquinone, ascorbic acid, azelaic acid & botanicals. The exact formulation depends on your pigment type & skin color. Above all, sunscreen should be the number one priority. 

No. This is because of the retinol that is present in the Melanopro system. 

Melasma in pregnancy can be safely treated with-

• AHA serum application 1-2 times per week as tolerated. 
• Ascorbic acid 10-20% in the morning.
• Azelaic acid in the evening. 

No. Unlike other peels, the Melanopro system does not contain hydroquinone, hence it is a safer alternative, especially for ongoing melasma management. The main pigment correctors are azelaic acid, tranexamic acid, retinol & vitamin B3/niacinamide.

Melanopro is a system for pigment reduction, not a pigment clearance solution. This means it can globally fade pigmentation by *9.7% to over 50%, depending on the type of pigment. 

For specific pigment treatment, pico lasers are a better treatment option. 

* Melanopro studies on dark spot reduction. 

Our clinic combines this peel with lasers such as pico & thulium. With correct settings, intra & post procedure care, lasers can accelerate pigment clearance with minimal risks of pigment flare. 

Laser work by shattering pigment into smaller particles whilst the Melanopro system accelerates pigment clearance. Combination results provide better results. 

That’s a rhetorical question. If you have melasma pigmentation, your sun protection should be absolute, hence all melasma treatments are fine. 

If you do not photoprotect, you should save your money & not have any treatments. Before embarking on any melasma treatments (including peels, creams & lasers), get your sun protection downpat. Here is how to do it-

• 2 finger lengths of tinted sunscreen.
• Twice a day application regardless of sun exposure. 
• Hats & active sun avoidance. 

Melanopro has a similar efficacy compared to in-office glycolic acid peels, however Melanopro has a big advantage; this system is performed at the convenience of your own home. Glycolic acid peels are performed every 2-3 weeks. 

Dark spot corrector. After six weeks of using the MelanoPro Peeling System topically, there was a notable reduction in the total number and area of dark spots by 9.7% and 14.4%, respectively, compared to baseline measurements. Additionally, there was a statistically significant improvement in skin homogeneity between the dark spots and normal skin by 9.8%, along with a 9.2% decrease in skin contrast, relative to Day 0.

Skin brightness.Regarding the global brightness assessment, the data showed that treatment with the MelanoPro Peeling System led to a significant 28.6% increase in specular brightness and a 35.1% reduction in diffuse brightness compared to baseline values at day zero. While there was a non-significant 5.3% increase in overall brightness, a small but significant effect of 2.5% was observed for skin lightness.

Improvements in skin roughness. For the analysis of surface roughness, results indicated a reduction of 12.9 to 14.1%.
